For those who are interested in applying anthropology to design and business, and who are thinking about a master’s degree, The University of North Texas is a leader in training anthropologists for this field of work.
At UNT’s Master’s Program in Applied Anthropology, students develop a strong grounding in anthropological theory while also conducting applied projects for clients in both the private sector and the not-for-profit sector. Areas of focus include design anthropology and user-centered design, communication in the workplace, human-computer interaction, consumer behavior, diversity and globalization, and organizational anthropology.
Professors include Christina Wasson and Susan Squires, well-respected practitioners who both have a long history in design anthropology. The program is offered both on-campus and online. Alumni of this program have gone onto very successful careers in user experience and design research, working in numerous design firms and corporations, including SapientNitro, NASA, Microsoft, and others.

Anthropologizing 
I am a senior at NC State majoring in anthropology and am considering applying to UNT’s applied anthropology program in business, technology, and design anthropology. I actually chose a degree in anthropology with the express intent to work in business and design and I was very excited to learn about UNT’s program! Unfortunately at this time there just isn’t very many schooling options for those of us who are interested in a career in business or design anthropology. I looked into UNT’s program by conducting a survey of past and present students over the summer with the permission of Dr. Christina Wasson.
